Ok, the venue is setup BUT!!!!!! there is an issue in the hotel with CafeNET in that it is NOT working right now and so there is NO INTERNET!!! I am in discussion with Citylink's on call technician who is looking into the issue, but it is not progressing well right now. Consequently, DO NOT TURN UP BEFORE 10am tomorrow! I hope to have this resolved by then, and obviously I am still here now trying to do that... News to follow... FFS would be putting it mildly. Looking to solution a PLAN B... |

Ensure that you update all your games via steam and Origin BEFORE you turn up on Saturday. A recent very large 2.9GB BF3 update has been released and you WILL NOT be able to download this at the LAN over the internet. If you fail to do so, you will have two choices... 1. Not play the game(s), or 2. Go away and update it. Sounds harsh, but this is NZ and as such our piddly internet connection will not sustain a bunch of lazy gamers downloading game updates over the internet connection at the hotel. Grumbling aside, it's all go for the weekend... :) See you there! Some have still not paid and so I presume that those few will not be in attendance... Note: VPNs and any kind of IPSEC forwarding etc will NOT be able to be used at the LAN due to the configuration of the network out of my control (See me if you want a better explanation than that) As such, if you are needing to use such things, you will need to prepare and bring a portable device sucha s a laptop etc with which you can do so. |

portLAN IX is in the planning and is Scheduled for December 10th, 2011. Personally I would have preferred a date in November, but life and other events do not permit this. On the other hand, it essentially becomes an end of year Christmas LAN. A LAN during December isn't generally the done thing, however there are two main drivers for this LAN, as follows... Battlefield 3 & Modern Warfare 3

Therefore, these two games are expected to dominate play time during the LAN. Having said that portLAN will continue to remain a "social" event foremost, however, this LAN is likely to feature a number of people that have not attended previously from the Call fo Duty Black Ops community. More detail to follow... :) Edit: Scratch the bit about creationg accounts. In 24 hours I got over 20 bs accounts created by bots so I have shut this off again. If you do not have an account and want one, email me with your handle, Real full name and how you came upon this site... |
